Harbor Restoration

Restoration

Named after its original occupant, John Coffin, Edgartown’s first blacksmith, this shed-roof Colonial-style house, originally constructed in 1682, had fallen into neglect for decades and required a major overhaul. A thoughtful restoration plan, combined with the addition of historically inspired accessory buildings, has restored the property to its former glory, now meeting the needs of the current owners' multigenerational family. The new structures, which include a guest cottage, carriage house, and home office, are carefully situated to preserve public water views and draw inspiration from 1890s extensions discovered in archival research. During construction, the main house was deconstructed, and 80% of the original post-and-beam framing materials were reassembled.
